This morning we were up nice and early about 4.20am and we left Sue and Simons with Simon as he had a car coming to pick him up to go to Vancouver for work. Had a good trip to the airport and managed to get on an earlier flight to New York. Worked out wonderful, we got to the hotel too early for check in so left all our belongings with the bell service and went for a walk in Time Square, stopped at McDonalds for breakfast. Booked in to see the Lion King for Friday night and the Little Mermaid for Thursday night, my mission was complete.
The hotel here is fantastic right on 43rd street and Times Square is at the end of our street, so walking distance to everything, everywhere you turn there is food and people.
Then we found the get on get off bus tour and got some tickets that last 3 days, didn't need to pay for Bella so that was a bonus, already I am thinking I am liking this city :)
The bus took us from Times Square past Broadway, Macy's OMG this one is the biggest!!! and the oldest. Madison Square Garden, Empire State Building, Flatiron Building, Union Square, Ground Zero, Greenwich Village, SOHO, Chinatown/Little Italy, City Hall/Brooklyn Bridge
We got off at Ground Zero as it was so hot on the top of the bus and we were needing a drink (big tip for myself tomorrow, don't forget the water).
Ground Zero, well you can't really see much except a big empty space, surrounded by barricades that you can't see through, but you can see there is lots of work being done, workmen, cranes and equipment being used. We went to the Tribute World Trade Centre 9/11 Visitor Centre which was really touching, I felt quite emotional looking at the photos and the debris that was left.
We got back on the bus as it was about time that we could check in, so on the way back we went through Battery Park, Lower East Side, East Village, United Nations, Waldorf Astoria, Rockefeller Centre, Central Park (Bella spotted the horse drawn carriages so we will be back there) and then it was back to Times Square and we stopped for lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe.
Had a nice quiet afternoon and evening and will be out and about tomorrow, I went for a walk down the road to get Bella some tea, and I felt a real buzz.
